Founded in 187, Colorado Springs offers a thriving business economy and a rich history. The city began as the vision of General William Jackson Palmer who hoped to create a “Little London". Gold was discovered in nearby Cripple Creek in the 1890s, bringing an influx of wealth to the region. The city thrived, building parks and expanding its economy. A steady influx of tourists flock to places like The Broadmoor Hotel, which opened in 1918.

The awe-inspiring vista of Pikes Peak dominates the landscape to the west. When Zebulon Pike first saw the mountain overlooking Colorado Springs, he believed it would never be scaled. Of course, thousands of hikers prove him wrong each year including the most famous person to scale the mountain – Katherine Lee Bates. In 1893 she made the summit a friend, inspiring her to write “America The Beautiful.”

El Paso County is home to the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base, NORAD, and Schriever Air Force Base. The strong military presence in the area contributes to the growing economy and proud American heritage.

Colorado Springs was named by Forbes Magazine as the 10th best place in America to do business. Money Magazine rated Colorado Springs number one - the Best Big City in the nation to live and work - in its August 2006 issue.
